Erectile Dysfunction
Sildenafil Tablets
Sildenafil tablets are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. They help achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity when stimulation occurs.
Precautions:
- Do not take if you are allergic to sildenafil or any ingredients.
- Avoid use if you take nitrates (for chest pain), riociguat, or recreational “poppers” containing amyl or butyl nitrate, as this combination can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
- Not suitable for men with severe heart or liver problems, recent stroke or heart attack, low blood pressure, or certain rare eye conditions.
- Speak to your doctor before use if you have cardiovascular disease, anatomical deformation of the penis, bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers, or are taking medicines such as alpha-blockers, antifungals, or antivirals.
- Side effects may include headache, flushing, indigestion, blocked nose, or dizziness. Seek urgent medical help if you experience chest pain, sudden vision loss, or a prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours.
- Always read the patient information leaflet before use.
The active ingredient, sildenafil citrate, belongs to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels in the penis, increasing blood flow during sexual arousal and improving erectile response.
Available strengths: 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg tablets.
How to take:
- Take one tablet approximately 1 hour before sexual activity.
- The tablet should be swallowed with water and can be taken with or without food (note: high-fat meals may delay onset).
- Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
- Your doctor or prescriber will determine the most suitable starting dose (commonly 50mg).
